ON THE ISSUES
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO RUN?
We can do better than this.
In 2020 and 2021, like many Oregonians, I was in a "fight or flight" pattern, trying to decide whether to move out of the state due to Kate Brown's draconian lockdowns, or stay and try to create change. After driving through most of the western half of the United States, it became clear to me that those states still felt like Oregon had felt when I was growing up here. Freedom, hope, and common sense still existed elsewhere. I discovered that Oregon and our governor had become a running joke across the country, a testament to failed leadership. I was saddened and embarrassed. I was also angry. "Fight" prevailed. I did the best I could to stand up for my people as mayor, but I knew that wasn't enough. COVID lockdowns would come to an end eventually, I knew, but Oregon needs so much of a course correction that the only way I could see to help in the way I wanted to help, was to run for higher office. After two months of calls from all across Oregon asking me to run for governor, I knew what I needed to do. I didn't make this decision lightly.
IF YOU'RE SO SMART, HOW WOULD YOU HAVE HANDLED COVID?
There would NEVER have been lockdowns or mandates. Look at Ron DeSantis or Kristi Noem and their management of Florida and South Dakota. They handled the situation right. This was my opinion after reviewing facts and science in 2020, and it hasn't changed. Their people came through the virus with better numbers, less personal trauma, and a stronger economy than Oregon as result of having governors who trusted in their individual judgment and sovereignty. From here on, we should focus on the availability of early treatment protocols.
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE VACCINE PASSPORT IDEA?
If you believe that:
We MUST protect the Second Amendment and defend the Constitution before both are lost.
Allowing our beautiful and valuable forests to burn annually is BAD forest management.
Parents, NOT politicians, should control
decisions that will shape our children’s futures.
We should STAND with and provide more
support for our police, NOT defund them.
ENABLING and encouraging our homeless DOES NOT WORK.
The government has NO PLACE in our
personal medical decisions.
FAILED government leadership and over-
regulation are crippling our businesses.
The unborn are PRECIOUS assets and we must ALWAYS fight for their right to life.
THRIVING farmers, ranchers, loggers and
miners equal a more self-sufficient state.
The East-West divide MUST END, and solid
leadership is needed to bring us together.
America is the shining light on the hill—and we have to fight to save her, state by state . . .
. . . then I'm the candidate for you.
I am vehemently against vaccine passports, or anything else that segregates our people into two classes, one with more rights than the other. Vaccine passport technology is just a step away from modification into the equivalent of China's Social Credit System, and this is a line in the sand we cannot ever cross. Pitting businesses and customers against each other by requiring vaccine card checks is wrong on every level. This isn't what America or Oregon should look like. As governor, I will promote individual medical freedoms. I would like to see a statewide ban of vaccine passports such as roughly half the other U.S. states have implemented.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP MY CHILD'S EDUCATION?
Perhaps the money should follow the child? We also have to keep our children in school, unmasked, unmandated and in person. Oregon has been focused on political indoctrination in our schools for far too long - and it shows. Oregon ranks abysmally close to last in the country in terms of real, competitive education. I would like to see a refocus on "old school" school. Math. Reading. Writing. Science. Geography. History. Civics. Languages. Instead we're spending our time focusing on horrific plans like implementing Critical Race Theory (CRT), which I would ban, into the classroom. CRT forces young children to constantly view themselves as separate from other children just because of the color of their skin - exactly the opposite of what Martin Luther King, Jr. taught.
WHAT EXPERIENCES AS MAYOR MIGHT TRANSLATE INTO SKILLS FOR A GOVERNOR?
Mayors and city councils deal with the budgetary process, infrastructure (streets, water and wastewater), public safety (fire and police) and analyzing state statutes to write resolutions and ordinances, much like elected officials at any level of government, but on a smaller scale. They are the legislative branch of a city. Those skills will translate well. My business skills from private industry combined with my volunteerism in the political realm for years translate even better. I'm an entrepreneur, which means I know how to operate effectively. Because of my volunteerism, I understand how Salem works.
WHY WOULD A DEMOCRAT IN OREGON VOTE FOR A CONSERVATIVE LIKE YOU?
Oregon is on the cliff, and we all know it. We have THIS election to turn it around. I honor our U.S. and State Constitutions. What does that mean for Democrats? It means I will value and protect a Democrat's individual rights just the same as a Republican's. Or an Independent's. Or a Non-Affiliated's. That kind of equality is what our Constitution guarantees, and what I believe in with all my heart. I hear from Democrats around the state, and their party hasn't served them well. They've gone from John Kitzhaber's ethic scandals into Kate Brown's dictatorship with no pause. We all want a sane Oregon back, where we can create and build our businesses, where our streets are safe, and where our children are well-educated.
WHAT ABOUT DEFUNDING OUR POLICE?
I'm against it. Our Baker City Police Department knows it's financially and otherwise supported. Perhaps if Portland's Rapid Response Team had known they were supported, and allowed to do their jobs, Portland would be in much better shape.
PLEASE ADDRESS CATASTROPHIC WILDFIRES.
The soon-to-be-former governor has a tendency to write off wildfires as the natural result of a climate crisis - and her focus is on "racial unequity" regarding fires. I disagree. We have seen catastrophic wildfires on both sides of the state in recent years. I have seen them up close and personal, and talked with professional foresters and experts on the subject. It's clear that blocked access to public lands hampers firefighting efforts. It's also clear that federal forest management practices have allowed for an extreme buildup of the fuel load on our forest floors. This needs to change. Log it, graze it, or let it burn, right? Please view my YouTube channel for a full video on the subject.
WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON 2A AND RIGHTS OF THE UNBORN?
Our Second Amendment is in place to protect us from a tyrannical government, and protect our other amendments. I believe rights like the ability to protect yourself and speak your own mind are God-given, which means these rights are inherently ours - AND they're wonderfully spelled out in our Constitution. As to right to life, Oregon legislators recently voted down a bill that would have required mandatory medical care for infants who managed to survive an abortion attempt. Can you imagine a baby being left alone and in agony on an operating room tray to slowly die? I'm pro-life, and actions like these are the stuff of nightmares.
